My Potential Placement

Time has gone so fast it's already come to that time where I have to choose where I want to work for 4 weeks or so. If I had the choice I would definitely pick a media partner which publishes newspapers. This is because I would feel a lot more comfortable working in a newspaper environment rather than a magazine environment. Having said that, if I had no choice I would love the opportunity to spend some time at a magazine, however my first and ultimate choice would have to be newspaper.

My first choice no doubt would have to be Trinity Mirror. Trinity Mirror is a large British newspaper and magazine publisher. It is Britain's biggest newspaper group. They are responsible for local newspapers such as Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Post and South Wales Echo. Also they are the publishers behind the national newspapers such as The Daily Mirror, The People and Daily Record. I would love to work for The Daily Mirror because I believe it is a lot like me; fun, bubbly and very witty. The news coming from Trinity Mirror is that Peter Willis has been appointed Deputy Editor of The Daily Mirror. For more information on the changes at The Daily Mirror click here

My Second choice would again be newspaper based but this time it would be with The Metro. It comes from The Associated Press and is a very popular newspaper. This is because I love the style of The Metro and I have been regularly reading The Metro for a long time. Also The Metro is very well written and the stories on there are concise, to the point and not very long which is perfect for someone like me.

My third and final choice would have to be from a magazine based, so that I'm not biased throughout. If I had the choice to choose a magazine it would have to be from the BBC and BBC Magazines. I love football and if I could choose then I would love to spend some time working for the Match of the Day magazine. It would be perfect for me as it's all about football and I would enjoy it more than any other magazine.

So there you have it, I would be very happy if I spent 4 weeks working for any of these publications.

Tesco's Sandwiches by Niomi Harris

Hi everyone :D

I don't really eat sandwiches much but ever since I've been coming here to Seven Sisters I have a taste for sandwiches. Vegetarian obviously because I'm a vegetarian. Actually I'm a pescatarian but I'm still a vegetarian really. There's not a lot I can say on the matter just that if I have to buy sandwiches from tescos I'd probably buy a vegetarian sandwich and enjoy it. :D

My Catch 22

This time last year I was staring down the barrel, expecting the very worst and hating my life as well as losing the will to live it. University felt like a long dream that simply wouldn't end and when it end I did not feel satisfied and I wanted more. Fast forward 365 days later and I find myself sitting in an office loving life once more. Am I going too quick? I think I am. Right let me tell you why I'm enjoying life and why I haven't stopped smiling for the past 6 weeks. Catch 22. That's right Catch 22 has made me smile and I have loved every minute of every day. To tell you the truth I had no idea what i was getting myself into.

Once I realised the Catch 22 course would be about magazines and focusing on print journalism. Now don't get me wrong I wanna be Journalist, 'so frickin' bad' but I prefer the broadcast/talking side a lot more than the writing. Which brings us to the Catch 22. I thought to myself would I benefit from Catch or would I be better off finding something more beneficial that may or may not give me a boost up the journalism ladder. Thus ironically finding myself in a catch 22 situation. And then I knew how Alanis Morrissette felt.

Even now that is still the case, however my because of my time so far at Catch 22 my mindset has somewhat slightly changed.

I feel a lot more confident in my writing, whereas before I was used to being told my writing skills never amounted to much. Thanks to Catch I can write a good news story and I fully understand my way around a features meeting and what I can expect. Also I feel like I'm developing a technique, a style of writing. It's early days so I don't want to jinx it. Don't just take my word for it here is what the previous Catch 22 trainees had to say. And if your not convinced with what they have to say check out the views and opinions from the media. You can call it biased but I can almost guarantee you that you will not find anything else like Catch 22.

As for me accomplishing more I want to take my career (yes I think I can finally use that word now) to the next level. Catch 22 is only the beginning, a fantabolous fabulastic wonderful beginning of what can be a beautiful relationship. Because of Catch 22 I've changed my plan. I wanna give print journalism a right good go and I wanna see how far I can go with that. Maybe later on I can make the transition to broadcast like many before me. Then I can sing along to this every day forever and a day! And on my next blog I can rabbit on about more newbie journalism stuff.
